Russell Dunn and Barbara Delaney –

Authors of dozens of waterfall and paddle guides!

Russell Dunn and his wife Barbara Delaney have been an inspiration to me and countless other waterfallers in and around New York State for some time. If not for Russell there might not have been a Dig The Falls to begin with. His books have been the key note to the finding of many beautiful untouched waterfalls that you will find on our site. Much of the information on the waterfalls in the Eastern part of New York that are listed or photographed herein originated from one of his books. Please, take the time to look over his collection. We have purchased every one of them and have not been disappointed!

Steve Young and his wife Laura Lehtonen –

Avid hikers and waterfallers who began cataloging New York’s waterfalls in the 90’s!

Steve and his wife Laura lived in Houston before moving to NY State in 1990. Before the move they were in the process of documenting all of the fountains in Houston, of which there are many, and producing a poster. They decided to move north before they were able to finish, though.

Lucky for us, once in New York they turned their interests from fountains to waterfalls! Steve and Laura started by looking at all of the NY topo maps and picked out the waterfalls that were listed, and also places where they thought there might be waterfalls because of the topography. By working up a datasheet for each location that they visited, they eventually accumulated enough data for a book. Life had another plan and their son Alex was born.

Almost 20 years later, they are back on the trail and ready to pick up where they left off!
